Composting Checklist for Healthy Soil
Gardening
Composting is a great way to create healthy soil for your garden. To ensure that your compost pile is working efficiently, there are a few things you should check regularly. First, make sure the temperature of the pile is between 120-160°F. If it's too cold, it won't break down properly. Next, turn the pile to aerate it and mix the materials. This will help speed up the decomposition process. Add brown materials like leaves or shredded paper to balance out the green materials like food scraps or grass clippings. Check the moisture level and add water if necessary. Cover the pile with a tarp or lid to retain moisture and heat. Monitor for pests or odors. Once the compost is finished, use it in your garden or start a new pile with fresh materials.
